In the early morning hours of May 6, 2018, our dear father Laurence Edgerton Lunt of Pleasant Grove, passed away. He was born January 17, 1931 in Miami, Arizona to Sabra Ann Jacobson and Sylvan Edgerton Lunt. Dad spent all his growing up years in Miami, roaming the hills having lots of adventures with his friends and brothers.

He loved the desert, and always referred to himself as an “old desert rat”. During his youth he learned the value of hard work, and this was a defining trait that continued throughout his life. He liked to be busy and was always building, repairing or improving something, and he took pride in the work that he did.

Upon graduating from high school Dad joined the Navy and served for four years during the Korean War, spending a large portion of the time at sea on various air craft carriers. Following his time in the Navy, dad served an honorable LDS mission in Samoa. He received his higher education at Arizona State University, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree and later a Master’s degree.

Dad met Carol Ann Nelson on a double date and they were married in the Mesa Arizona Temple on March 30, 1960. They were blessed with four children and spent those years raising their family in Mesa, AZ. Dad taught Industrial Arts at the high school and middle school level for several years, and then decided to change careers, working for Empire Machinery Company for the remainder of his working years before taking a medical retirement.

Dad loved to build things and work with his hands. He always had a project going, and could fix anything. The most important thing he ever built was our wonderful home.

Mom and Dad were able to serve a mission for the LDS church at the Los Angeles Family History Center, and Dad loved his time serving there. Most of all Dad loved his family. He was so proud of his heritage and had a great love for his ancestors.

What a wonderful reunion he’s having right now! Dad is survived by Carol, his loving wife of 58 years, and their children: Laura and Mark O’Barr of Lehi, UT, Sylvan and Sue Lunt of Mesa, AZ, Nita Rogers of Fair Oaks, CA, Eric and Ember Lunt of Cedar City, UT. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren: Samantha O’Barr, Hannah Romney, Angus O’Barr, Grace O’Barr, Edgerton Lunt, Wesley Lunt, Nathaniel Lunt, Eli Lunt, Ivy Lunt, Mariah Rogers, Isaiah Rogers, Rachel Rogers, Isaac Rogers, Ruby Rogers, Clayton Lunt, Jessica Lunt, Shannon Lunt, Kyle Lunt, Ryan Lunt and Heidi Lunt, and 5 great grandchildren: Emmitt Romney, Brightyn Romney, Leah Romney, Aurora Lunt and Rockwell Lunt.

Also surviving Dad are his brothers: Gerald Lunt, Martin Lunt and Roger Lunt. Preceded in death by his parents, sister Virginia Nicoson, and Brother Stanley Lunt. We would like to express special thanks to Dad’s aid and friend, Peter Martinez.

He was a bright spot in Dad’s days and Dad always said he loved him like a son. We are so grateful for your service to Dad! A viewing will be held Monday, May 14 at 9:30 -10:45 a.m. with the funeral following at 11:00 a.m. at the Pleasant Grove Stake Center at 275 E. 500 S., Pleasant Grove.

Interment will be in the Ogden City Cemetery. Condolences may be left at www.
