MADISON-Leon A. Marty Sr., age 92, of Madison, passed away at home on Sunday, May 20, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was born on Oct. 10, 1925, in Monticello, the son of Walter and Barbara (Klassy) Marty.

Leon graduated from Belleville High School on June 2, 1943. He was united in marriage to Margaret Church on June 26, 1948. Leon worked for General Beverage Sales Company for over 60 years.

He began his career delivering beer and liquor and steadily moved up… Read More » the ranks to salesman. Leon was awarded Salesman of the Year, multiple times throughout his career. He was very involved at Calvary United Methodist Church, including maintaining the flower gardens and in recent years at Monona United Methodist Church.

Growing up on a farm, cultivated his love for gardening, both flowers and vegetables. Leon was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan. He is survived by daughters, Diane (Timm) Gould and Kathy (Jon) Chrisler; daughter-in-law, Dawn Marty; grandchildren, Joseph Long (Teresa), Nicole (Christopher) Johnson, Josh (Cynthia) Marty, Nicholas (Brittany) Marty, Andrew Chrisler (Shelly) and Chelsie Chrisler; great-grandchildren, Eric, Michael, Christian, Lizzie, his “Little Buddy” Aiden, James and Hannah; brother, Don Marty; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; son, Leon Marty Jr.; brothers, Earl (Mary) Marty and Delmar (Ruth) Marty; and sister-in-law, Lory Marty. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018, with the Rev. Brad Van Fossen presiding.

Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Monona United Methodist Church or to Agrace HospiceCare.
