Obituary for Lewis LaGrand, Jr. Lewis LaGrand, Jr., age 86, of Elizabethton went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Hillview Health Care Center surrounded by his family. Lewis was born in Banner Elk, North Carolina to the late Lewis T. LaGrand, Sr. and Susan K. Williams LaGrand. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Raymond Carden.
Lewis worked at Walmart, in many capacities, for 41 years and was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church. He attended ETSU and was a member of the Dogwood Chapter of Hudson Es Terraplane Auto club and of the National HET of America. Lewis was affectionately known as “Mr. Walmart” and had visited Sam Walton and his wife.
He loved his Walmart family and his Hudson Terraplane Auto Club family. Lewis enjoyed walking, traveling, visiting with people, loved watching the Tennessee Lady Volunteers and loved to attend and participate in the Carter County Cruise-In. Lewis enjoyed his time traveling with his nephew, Gary Plank.
He loved family gatherings, holidays, dinners and special occasions. We will always cherish our sweet times with our Lewis. He was loved beyond words, he touched lives everywhere he went.
He loved all that he knew and they loved him. We will miss him until we see him again. Those left to cherish his memories include two sisters, Laura Lee Aycock and husband Jeff, of Elizabethton and Sue Carden, of Hampton; his nieces and nephews, Gary Plank and wife Lorie, Theodore Carden, Laney Carden and wife Amanda, Susan Fenner and husband Jason and Charles Carden.
Several great nieces and great nephews also survive. A service to honor the life of Lewis LaGrand, Jr. will be conducted at 5:00 PM on Sunday, September 16, 2018 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Dr. Joe Sorah and Rev. Jacob Guinn, officiating.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Sunday or at the residence of Laura and Jeff Aycock at other times. Family and friends may also call at the residence of his other sister, Sue Carden. The graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 17, 2018 at Happy Valley Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Theodore Carden, Laney Carden, Chris Williams, Benny Vaughn, Joe Collins, Harvey Norris, Travis Woodward and Jim Such. Honorary pallbearers will be Floyd Broyles, Eddie Smithpeters, Larry Andes, Benny Grindstaff, Ken Wandell, John Dougherty, Lee Moles, Elmer Sams, Gary Plank and Joe Crow. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton at 9:15 AM on Monday, to go in procession.
