Liffy’s Obituary Elizabeth Ann “Liffy” Crossfield Hanks, widow of Paul Wickliffe Hanks, died Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center after a long illness. She was 88. She was born on February 10, 1930, to the late Rev.

She served as Lawrenceburg City Clerk from 1970 until her retirement in 1990. Liffy was a lifelong member of Lawrenceburg First Baptist Church, where she served for 36 years as a Sunday School teacher, 19 years as the Sunday School department secretary, was a past-president of the Women’s Missionary Union, and served in many other church ministries through the years. She and her husband were well known and loved in both their church and the community, and were involved in many charitable activities.
They were faithful visitors to the sick and homebound, and drove thousands of miles over the years transporting people to doctor visits and cancer treatments. In May 1994, they were recognized for their community service by being named Anderson County Citizens of the Month. Liffy was also a regular volunteer at Heritage Hall Care Center in Lawrenceburg for over 15 years, where she was adored by patients and staff alike.
Liffy loved to entertain and cook – her barbecued meatballs and chocolate and stack pies were particular favorites. She was an avid card player and liked doing crafts, working jigsaw puzzles, and watching UK basketball games. She also enjoyed traveling.
Over the years she and her husband visited all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. One of the greatest pleasures of her life was the annual family vacations they planned in secret each year before revealing the destination to their family on Christmas mornings. Liffy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, George W. and Charlene Hanks of Lawrenceburg; three grandsons, Ryan Hanks and Cory (Michelle) Hanks, both of Lawrenceburg; and Levi Hanks, Portland, OR; two granddaughters, Tara (Chris) Campbell of Paris, and Tabitha (Cooper) Hayes of Bellevue, Idaho; and nine great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by daughter-in-law Judy Hanks of Martinez, GA and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Crossfield of Lawrenceburg, and Marjorie Hanks of Louisville, several cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband of 58 years and her parents, she was predeceased by her youngest son, Brent C. Hanks, her brother, William G. “Bill” Crossfield, Jr., her sister Virginia C. Holbrook, and grandson Stephen C. Hawkins. The celebration of her life will be held Monday, January 28th at 11:00 AM at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with Dr. Bob Ehr and Dr. Jeff Eaton officiating.
