Lorraine E Schenck Thompson , November 29, 1928 — June 18, 2018

DEFOREST- Lorraine E. Thompson, age 89, died peacefully on June 18, 2018 at Serenity Home in DeForest. She was born in the Town of Bristol on November 29, 1928, the daughter of Albert and Esther (Sievert) Schenck. She graduated from DeForest High School in 1946.

She married John A. Thompson on October 16, 1948 at Sun Prairie Methodist Church. Aside from her time as a stay at home mom, Lorraine worked as an administrative professional for many years, concluding her working years at Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison in 1993. Lorraine was a proud member of Christ Lutheran Church for 70 years, was active in the Church Women, many committees and sang in the choir for many years.

She was also a member of the DeForest Legion Auxiliary, the DeForest Homemakers Club and was a Cub Scout Den Mother. She loved sewing, needlework, and raising flowers, especially her beautiful hybrid roses. Her special joy was her family and she was in her glory when her family gathered.

Lorraine is remembered for her kindness, compassion and deep Christian faith, which she instilled in her family and others. She is survived by her husband of almost 70 years, John; children, Rick (Brenda), Cindy (Jeff) Schave, and Tim (Tammy); grandsons, Andrew and B.J. (Laura) Thompson, Michael (Hillary) and Steven (fiancé, Kari Kovacs) Schave, and Zak (fiance, Megan Schaffer) Townsend; and great-grandchildren, Lily, Ben, Ryan John, and Jackson Thompson, and Wesley Schave; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marcella (Henry) Rostad; and brother, Robert Schenck.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church or to Heartland Hospice. Lorraine’s family wishes to thank Dr. David Ringdahl and the staffs of Serenity Home and Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 22, 2018 at CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH, 220 S. Main St., DeForest, with the Rev.
