Louis Byron (LB) Caldwell, Jr. June 18, 1926 – March 12, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| View Guestbook Entries| Send Sympathy Card Funeral Service for Louis Byron (LB) Caldwell Jr, 92, Lawton will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Park Lane Church of Christ, Lawton with ministers Elbert Tilghman and Fletcher Tilghman. Burial will be in the Letitia Cemetery under the direction of the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home. The family will greet friends and family from 6-8 pm Friday at the funeral home.

LB went to be with his Lord early Tuesday morning March 12, 2019, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born in Lawton, Oklahoma on June 18, 1926 to Louis Byron Caldwell Sr. and Edna Jane (Peterson) Caldwell. He was raised and lived in Lawton all his life and attended Roseland Schools.

LB married Betty Jane Sparkman on March 29, 1946. The love affair of LB and Betty started after he bought her pie at a pie supper. He has been married to the love of his life for almost 74 years.

LB started his faith in God and was ordained as a minister at Park Lane Church of Christ on February 6, 1980 and remained a member of the Park Lane Church of Christ. LB began his working life in the wholesale food business. He started working and later owned and operated the Lawton Produce, Speedy Foods Grocery Stores and C & C Foods until his retirement in 1986.

LB also worked the family farm at a very young age and continued farming until he retired. In his early 20’s he had a country and western band and played at the Skating Rink in Medicine Park and Wichita Falls, Texas on weekends. He played with Ernest Tubbs and Little Jimmy Dickens.

He was a very talented musician being able to play several musical instruments along with the ability to write songs. He has taught all of the Caldwell family how to play musical instruments. He loved to be able to have jam sessions with his family especially at the family reunions.

He enjoyed riding motorcycles especially with his family. He loved to bowl in which he was in several leagues and won a National Bowling Championship. He played softball until he got too old to run.

He is survived by his wife of the home, one son and his wife Randall and Inna Caldwell, one daughter and her husband Laraine and Dewane McBride, one daughter-in-law Charlotte Caldwell, and one brother and sister-in-law Hurchel and Barbara Caldwell. Six grandchildren: Leon and Amy McBride, Marie and Nate Murrill, Julie McBride, Clayton Cook, Matt and Whitney Caldwell, and Cheryl and Steve Thornhill. Eleven great grandchildren and 11 great-great children.

Preceded in death by his parents, son Byron Caldwell, daughter Irlena Perkins, brother Vernie Caldwell, and sisters Waunema Vanuisho and Effie Tilghman. The family would like to give a special thanks to the employees of Ayers Nursing Home in Snyder, Oklahoma for all the exceptional care given to LB.
