Charles Taylor Blount, age 92, Lawton, died Monday, March 11, 2019 in a local care center. He was born June 22, 1926 in Ten Mile, Tennessee to Arthur Lee and Delrhea (Davis) Blount . He passed away March 11, 2019 at the Lawton Veterans Center.

Charles joined the U.S. Army in 1944 and retired after 21 years of service in 1965. He was a veteran of the Korean war. During his career he served in Georgia, Colorado, Texas, Kansas, Korea, France, Austria, Japan, and Germany before retiring at Ft.

SIll. After retiring from the military he worked as an instructor at Treasure Lake Job Corp ,retiring again after 22 years. Charles met the love of his life, Shizue Ichikawa, while stationed in Japan.

The two married on December 18, 1952. They were married for over 65 years. They were both charter members of Olivet Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon.

After his retirement he spent countless hours working for his church. Charles was a skilled carpenter, a trade he learned from his father. He was gifted with his hands and he could figure out how to fix or build just about anything.

He also enjoyed tending his garden. Charles was a kind hearted humble man who believed in hard work and worked up until the last few years of his life when his health wouldn’t allow. He is survived by his daughter, Susie Rinderle and husband Don, Lawton; son, Arthur Blount and wife Jonita, Carnegie; son, Chester Blount and wife Sheila, Lawton; seven grandchildren: Charlie Blount and wife Renee, El Reno; Justin Blount and wife Atalie, Nacogdoches, TX; Jared Blount and wife Emilie, Midwest City; Lauren Franklin and wife Rachel, Dallas, TX; Melanie Graham and husband Ty, Pawnee; Amanda Harrison and husband Tommy, Lawton; Tyler Copeland and her husband Noah, Austin, TX; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Shizue; parents, Arthur and Delrhea Blount; brothers, James Blount and Rhea Blount, and a sister, Ardrea McQuaide. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville TN 37214-0800.
