Lowell J Allen Lowell J Allen (Al) passed away at the age of 87 on January 21, 2019, in SLC, Utah. He was born to Minnie Ruth Breeden in Boise, Idaho and named Robert Lloyd Breeden on March 22, 1931. After her death on March 26, 1931, he was adopted by Leonard Preece and Stella (Seely) Allen from The Children’s Home Finding and Aid Society of Idaho soon after.

He was an only child. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1949 and married Mary LaRene Thomas. They had four daughters, Linda Arleen, Mary Kathleen, Patricia Jolene and Terry Jean.

Although they were divorced, they always had concern for the other. In 1950, he was employed as a Car Inspector for the Southern Pacific Railroad. A year later, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and valiantly served in the Korean War from 1951 to 1952, earning numerous medals and other awards.

He was honorably discharged in 1958. Although he did not speak often of his war experiences, he was always proud to be a United States Marine. Upon his return from the Korean War and while working for the Railroad, he enrolled in Weber State College in the medical program.

An unfortunate hearing loss caused by Mennier’s Disease put an end to his career goals and he retired as a Car Inspector and Welder with the Ogden and Salt Lake City Railroads after 42 years of faithful and dedicated service. He loved to fish and hunt. He also loved to read and taught himself several languages as well as a number of musical instruments.

He is survived by Linda (Scott) Lee, Kathy (Chris) Oleson, Patti (Mike) Aven and Terry (Gary) Knighton, 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 1 great, great grandson. He was also survived by a special friend Margie Rich. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the wonderful care he received at Brookdale Senior Living, especially Gloria and Andi.

We thank Dr. Gohari, Elaine and Echo. Also, Linda and granddaughter Lori for all their help. We also want to express our sincere appreciation to the CNS Honor Salute for their beautiful ceremony in honor of his military service.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing from 9:30-10:45 that morning at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd, Ogden. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please give your loved ones a hug.

Semper Fidelis, Dad.
