Lucinda Cruz Armendariz 89, of Salinas passed away Friday, on April 6, 2018, our precious mother, grandmother, great granny goose, and auntie Lucy passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, after a courageous battle with kidney failure, diabetes, and cancer. She was born in Caruthers, CA, on September 14, 1928, to Abelina and Alfred Cruz. She was raised in Glendale, Arizona.
In 1944 the Cruz family moved to Salinas where her father worked as a labor contractor. She completed her education by working during the day and going to school at night Our mother enjoyed cooking, clipping recipes wherever she found them, reading, jigsaw puzzles, dancing, listening to music, coin collecting, visiting casinos, watching her Novelas, and lottery scratchers. In her younger days she enjoyed painting pictures, and walking on the beach with her metal detector looking for treasures.
Our mom will always be remembered for her smile and her heart of gold. This was no ordinary lady; she was special and we all knew that we were blessed with a treasure of a mother who loved life. There wasn’t a friend or a relative who came to visit without leaving with some kind of little trinket or something to eat.
Her home was open to everyone and she enjoyed entertaining guests. She also loved receiving cards and phone calls especially from her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Our mom was well known for her sharp mind and witty personality.
She remembered everything and everyone and was lovingly straightforward, even at the end of her life She taught us how to live life bravely, courageously, and to trust in our faith. A special thanks to Jane Echeveria (Caregiver) for all her love and devotion to our beloved mother. We love you!
