Mae L. Smith, 98, of Murphysboro passed away at 9:58am on Thursday, May 9, 2019 in Carbondale. Mae was born November 28, 1920 in rural Murphysboro a daughter to the late Sherman D. and Grace (Bryant) Reiman. She was united in marriage to Gene Smith on August 18, 1944 in Murphysboro; Gene preceded her in death on September 28, 1990.

Mae was a member of the First Baptist Church in Murphysboro and was also a member of the Murphysboro Senior Citizens, Eastern Star, and the Murphysboro Moose Lodge. Mae was employed as an office manager for J.C. Penny Company and retired after over 50 years of service. Funeral services will be at 1pm on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro Rev.

Shaker Samuel of the First Baptist Church will officiate; burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Ava. Visitation will be from 11am until the hour of services on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are encouraged and may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, the First Baptist Church or to the donor’s choice and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Survivors include one sister and brother-in-law, Vivian Earlene and Jerry High of Austin, TX, three nieces, Donna (John) Pugh of Murphysboro, Alexandra Marshall of Millbrook, NY, and Debbie (Frank) Edwards of Austin, TX, two nephews, Donald (Kim) Garver of Ava, IL, and Mark (Nelomi) High of Austin, TX, also surviving are several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, her special care giver, Margie Gale, and honorary granddaughter, Megan Gale.
