Nancy Quatier officiating. Margaret was born on July 1, 1952, to Walter and Sylva (Stavig) Rennerfeldt, and grew up in Rosholt, SD. After graduating from Rosholt High School, she attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, and graduated with a double major in Music and Elementary Education.
She went on to attend the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ, and graduated with a master’s in Music Education. It was there that she met William Jacobus, and the two were married in 1978. After returning to Rosholt, they welcomed their daughter, Sylva Anne Jacobus, into the world on July 3, 1979.
After running a downtown café in Rosholt for a short time, her husband Bill rejoined the military and their family moved to White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. They were then transferred to Anchorage, Alaska, for three years where Margaret worked as an educator and church organist. The family was then transferred to Virginia, where they lived in Colonial Heights for nine years.
Margaret then attended Virginia Commonwealth University where she earned her master’s in Social Work. Because of her experiences with military life, she decided to dedicate her career in social work to helping military families at Fort Lee, Virginia. When her husband Bill retired from the Military in 1994, the family moved to Winona, MN, for three years.
Margaret soon took a position at the Grand Forks Air Force Base as a social worker and remained there for several years. Bill passed away in 2002, and in 2006 Margaret chose to answer the call to become an ordained minister. She attended Wartburg Theological Seminary and was ordained into the ELCA Lutheran Church in 2010.
She then took a call to serve the Oklee Lutheran Parish in Oklee, MN, until 2017, when she retired and moved to Onalaska, WI, to be closer to her family. Margaret cared deeply for her pets, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute with her dogs and cats over the years. She enjoyed knitting and sewing, watching classic movies, spending time with her family and grandchildren, and drinking coffee.
Margaret was also a lover of music, and greatly enjoyed playing piano, organ, and singing, especially church hymns. She is survived by her daughter, Sylva Hanson (Jacobus), Sylva’s husband Erik, grandchildren Noah and Aeron, and sister Heather Rennerfeldt. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Margaret’s name to your local humane society.
