Dorothy Carolyn Kinn was born to Matt and Ann (Kuhlwein) Kinn on February 22, 1931, at home in Hankinson; the second of five children. Her entire life was lived in Richland County, ND.

Dorothy met Frank Hermes, and they married on November 4, 1954. They have been married almost 64 years. She was a hard worker, taking many jobs over the years.

She taught her children to work hard-no sluffing off. Her home was always clean and in order. She instilled in us the Catholic faith by practicing what she preached.

Her children always admire and imitate that faith in their daily lives. She cherished and respected the elderly, and she was proud of demonstrations by her children and grandchildren for moments of assisting elderly people. But most of all, she was the champion of the world in pulling a prank.

She’d pull them on everyone, be it big or small, outright or surprising, and they were always great. Many people she knew can attest to her style. Survivors include her husband, Frank Hermes of Hankinson; her children, Cindy (Dean) Reiland of Mantador, ND, Jim (Lisa) Hermes of Kindred, Sheila Hermes (Dan Friago) of Lindstrom, MN, Joe (Tami) Hermes of Hankinson, Jeanne Veit of Hankinson, and Matt (Josie) Hermes of Anchorage, AK; her grandchildren, Cody (Sarah) Reiland, Travis Reiland, Justin (Leslie) Reiland, Gabrielle (Chris) Kimpel, Anastacia Hermes, Jacob Hermes, Andrew (Meghan) Johnson, Katie Johnson, Frank Hermes, IV, Alison Hermes, Bill Hermes, Dorothy Hermes, Patrick Veit, Nick Veit, Tony Veit, Roslyn Hermes, and Matt Hermes, Jr.; her great-grandchildren, Bailey, Gavin, Raina, Vanna, Baya, Charlie, Hudson, Elsie, Brynn and a new great grandchild- in September; her sister, Wynema Bommersbach; and her sisters-in-law, Edna Hermes and Linda Kinn.

She is also remembered by many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mae Fenske and Marion Penley; her brother, Patrick Kinn; niece, Claudia Kutzer; grandniece, Jenny Kutzer; grandnephew, Jessy Haberman.
