Obituary for Margaret Mary Howard Margaret M. Howard, 82, of Lincoln formerly of Grand Island, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2018. Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 29th, at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Celebrant will be Father Scott Harter.

Burial and committal will be at Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at All Faiths Funeral Home with a Rosary at 6:00. Margaret was born September 24, 1936 in Sargent, NE, the daughter of Steven L. and Agnes (Kamerad) Gruber.

She graduated from Sargent High School, class of 1954. She then received her RN Degree from Marymount College of Salinas, KS. She married Eldon H. Howard on December 31, 1960 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sargent.

Margaret kept her nursing license until she turned 60, but was mainly a wife and mother to their four wonderful children, who were born in three different states, South Dakota, Kansas and New Mexico. The couple relocated to Sargent, then Hastings, before spending their retirement years in Grand Island. Following Eldon’s passing in 2012, Margaret moved to Lincoln to be closer to her family.

Margaret partnered with her husband in his trucking business for 37 years. She also supported her children in their activities, including Brownies and 4-H. She was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral and enjoyed her volunteer work with St. Francis Medical Center.

Above all, Margaret adored her beloved grandchildren. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Dr. Susan Howard of Lincoln, Steven (Stephanie) Howard of Omaha, Thomas (Sarah) Howard of Columbia, MO and Barbara (Andrew) Monson of Lincoln; sister, Carol (Larry) Poland of Kearney; ten grandchildren, Benjamin (Anna) Howard, Madelin (James) Debold, Hannah Monson, Amelia Howard, Carter Monson, Nicholas Howard, Joseph Howard, Timothy Thies, Meghan Thies and Grace Monson; a great-grandson, Oliver Debold; and a dear cousin and friend, Erma Jean Kroeger of Grand Island. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon; parents; and sister Bonnie Hoffheins.
