Obituary for Joan Adele Carroll Joan Adele Carroll, 83, of Grand Island, died on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 in Springfield, MO, after a brief hospital stay. Service and celebration of Joan’s life will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 7th at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 10:00 until service time.

Burial of ashes will be in Grand Island City Cemetery. Joan was born February 26, 1935 in Grand Island, to Arlene Mercedes (Barnes) and John Bruce Kikendall. Joan grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island High School in 1952.

She married Clayton Howard Burmood in 1953 and they farmed and lived near Shelton Nebraska, raising four children. Joan lived in the Shelton area for 30 years. On October 31, 1998, Joan married Walter “Gator” Carroll.

After retirement, they returned to Grand Island, where she remained until a recent move to Missouri. Joan worked on the farm while raising her family, and later worked in convenience stores in the Shelton area. Joan was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star.

She loved Cornhusker football and volleyball, and joined her husband Gator in cheering for the Chicago Cubs. Joan and Gator enjoyed spending time at the Platt Duetsche in Grand Island, where they were members. In recent years she continued to enjoy coffee and drinks with her friends, loved crossword and jigsaw puzzles and her favorite game shows.

She was an avid reader and follower of news and current events. She is survived by three children, daughters, Linda Ann (William) Adair of Boonville, Missouri, Nancy Lee (Michael) Ragains of Lebanon, Missouri, son, Dean Mitchell (Carol) Burmood of Largo, Florida; sister-in-law, Patricia Kikendall of Murrietta, California; former husband, Clayton Burmood; seven grandchildren; and Walter’s children and grandchildren. Joan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter “Gator” Carroll; daughter and son-in-law, Susan Gail and Gary Isom of Hastings, NE; and a brother, James R. Kikendall of Murietta, California.
