Obituary for Mikel Dennis Wagner Mikel Dennis Wagner 66, of Grand Island, passed from this life to the next on December 6, 2018 at his home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday January 4th at Third City Christian Church, with Pastor Scott Jones and Clark Bates officiating. Visitation will be from 2 pm to 4 pm on Thursday January 3rd, at All Faiths Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to Celebrate Recovery at TCCC. Mr. Wagner was born September 18th, 1952, in Omaha, NE to George Wagner and Margaret Wagner. Mikel grew up in Council Bluffs, Iowa and graduated from East High in Sioux City, Iowa in 1970.
He attended Iowa State, and Nebraska Christian College where he met his wife Penny. He was united in marriage to Penny Jean Bates on June 24, 1973, in Beaver City. Besides Norfolk, Mike and Penny also lived in Kansas, Iowa, and Indiana before settling in the Grand Island area in 1989.
Mikel loved teaching, and could be found at Young at Heart, Celebrate Recovery and First Christian Church in Palmer, sharing his knowledge and love of Christ. Mike loved books. He was always on a mission to gain knowledge and insight into many varying interests.
He was particularly interested in collecting rocks, and geology. He had a special talent for genealogy and had studied his family trees as far back as he could go. He loved exploring and travelling.
He was always on an adventure wherever the road took him. Mike never met a stranger and was always quick with a joke or a random fact. He was a social butterfly and loved to talk.
He was a kind and helpful man who always left a place or person better than when he came. It was this friendly, sociable personality that drew him to his second wife Faye. In a whirlwind romance they were joined in marriage on February 25th, 2017.
They were two peas in a pod, they enjoyed each other and their love of God immensely. He baptized her, and they walked with God never looking back. Mike was a wonderful father and friend.
He had a huge heart and was not afraid to use it. He will be deeply missed by so many. He was a true blessing to everyone and will now find rest in a life well lived and a job well done.
His love for Christ will continue to be a beacon of light for those that knew him. He was preceded in death by his father, George Wagner, his mother Margaret Wagner, his wife Penny Bates-Wagner, his wife Faye Conlon-Wagner and his beloved dogs, Charlie and Kasey. Mikel will always be remembered for his smile, his wonderful playful spirit, and especially his commitment to living a life for God.
Survivors of his immediate family include his mother-in-law, Wilma Bates of Beaver city, NE; children and their spouses, Adam and Samantha Wagner of Colorado Springs, Amie Brown of Grand Island, NE, Allynda and Kyle Callies of Benton City, WA, and grandchildren, Sagelynn, Izack, Nonia, James and Kyla.
