Obituary for Betty J. Norton Betty J. Norton “Betty Boop”, 88 of Grand Island died Thursday, December 13, 2018 with her loving family at her side. “Celebration of Life” Service will be 10:30 AM Friday, December 21st at the Evangelical Free Church. Reverend Jeff McKearney will officiate.

Burial of ashes will be in the Grand Island Cemetery with a luncheon to follow. Gathering of family and friends will be from 5-7 PM Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Betty was born September 3, 1930 at Falls City, NE the daughter of John and Juanita (Foster) Cornford.

Her father died when Betty was two years old. After her mother remarried, Betty was adopted by her step father, Lawrence Bates. She was raised and received her education in Tecumseh, Lincoln and Bellevue.

She graduated from Bellevue High School class of 1948. On August 15, 1948 she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart Merton Norton. They lived in Bellevue, Omaha and Lincoln before making Grand Island their home in 1967.

She was a very devoted wife and mother. Betty was employed by Brandeis, YMCA-YWCA and Walmart. She also owned and operated Creative Crafts and Hobbies in downtown Grand Island for many years.

She was a member of Evangelical Free Church, the Red Hat Ladies, the Betty-Boop Club and past member of La Sertoma. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader and enjoyed gardening and crafting. Most of all she loved time spent socializing with family and friends as Betty was a social butterfly.

Those left to cherish her memory include son, Scott (Lisa) Norton of Grand Island; daughters, Regina Norton and her husband, Dan Adams of Tucson, AZ, Sandy Johnson of Grand Island and Amy Norton of Grand Island; grandchildren, Mikayla (Zac) Bailey, Samantha (Alex) Murphy and Max Norton Findling; greatgrandchildren, Lexi Norton, Saphira and Scarlett Bailey, her best friend, Sheere Gleason, many grand dogs and cats and numerous friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Merton; an infant son, Lawrence Norton; her parents; brother, Lawrence “Max” Bates, and sister, Gail Looney. A memorial fund will be established in memory of Betty.
