Obituary for Alvernon Lloyd Knoepfel Alvernon “Al” Lloyd Knoepfel, 86 of Grand Island passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at CHI Health St. Francis. Services will be 10 AM Saturday, November 3rd at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Reverend Adam Snoberger will officiate.

Burial will be in the Grand Island Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Al was born May 1, 1932, on the family farm south of Farwell, Nebraska.

His parents were Chris and Martha (Lemburg) Knoepfel. He was baptized at Kelso Lutheran Church near Farwell and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Cairo, Nebraska. He grew up on the farm and attended Kelso School.

His high school years were spent at St. Paul’s College in Concordia, Missouri, and California Concordia College in Oakland, California. He graduated from California Concordia College in 1951. Al was united in marriage to Darlene Schroeder on June 4, 1955, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island, Nebraska.

He was a builder by trade and was self-employed for 25 years under the name of Mr. K Building and Remodeling. Al was a member of Lutheran Laymen’s League at Trinity Lutheran Church and a member of the Grand Island Lions Club. He helped establish Project Hunger, having a special interest in assisting and serving the hungry locally and in the world.

He served on various boards and committees at Trinity and for the Nebraska District of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. He was a Sunday school teacher and member of the choir for many years at Trinity. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John and his wife, Mary, Clarence and his wife, Laurel, Harlan, Arnold and Donald; sisters, Elvena and her husband, Loris Campbell and Christina and her husband, Herman Kruse; brother-in-law, Peter Dibbern; sister-in-law, Phyllis and her husband, Joe Dunn; brother-in-law, Harold Schroeder and his wife, Roberta; sister-in-law, Maxine and her husband Fred Little; brother-in-law, Jerry Schroeder; nephews, Bill Dunn and Michael Dunn; and nieces, Valerie Dibbern, Connie Dibbern and Kim Dibbern.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Darlene; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Kenneth and Stacie of Ogallala, Nebraska, Douglas and Lori of Tulsa, Oklahoma and James of Fremont, Nebraska; grandchildren and their spouses, Zak and Michelle, Chris, Rachel, Irene, Clint, Reid and Jillian, Joel, Joshua, Jordan, Jared, and Tyler; great-grandchildren, Kylee, Marley, Travis, Clover, Layla, McKenlee, Linden and Daxton; sister, Angeline Dibbern; sisters-in-law, Sandra Schroeder and Evelyn Knoepfel and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved very much. Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church and School, Heartland Lutheran High School, Project Hunger and the Russian Orphanage supported by Trinity Lutheran Church.
