Obituary for Warren A. Hoover Warren A. Hoover, 94 of Grand Island died Friday, November 16, 2018 at The Arbors in Lincoln. Services will be 10:30 AM Monday, November 26th at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. Father Robert Lewis will officiate.

Entombment of his ashes will be in the St. Stephen’s columbarium. Military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Navy and the United Veterans Honor Guard. Family will greet friends an hour before service time.

Memorials are suggested to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church or to the Nebraska Children’s Home Society. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. Warren was born on April 21, 1924 in Emmett, Idaho the son of Fred and Ethel (Weinhold) Hoover.

He graduated from Grand Island Senior High class of 1942. He entered the US Navy on May 22, 1943, serving during WWII. He was honorably discharged on March 17, 1946, having attained the rank of Signalman 2nd Class Petty Officer.

He received three Battle Stars for the Asiatic Pacific and two Battle Stars for the Philippine Liberation. On November 2, 1947 he was united in marriage to Lois A. Liedtke in Grand Island. The couple made Grand Island their home.

In 1984, Warren retired following 42 years of service with Union Pacific Railroad. Memberships include being active in his church, a life member of the VFW Post 1347, past Master Mason Ashlar Lodge #33, Union Pacific Employee Club and life member of the Nebraska PTA. He loved sports, especially setting in the stands watching football, basketball, softball and baseball.

His greatest joy was his family. Those left to cherish his memory are daughters, Stacia (Don) Dreier of Grand Island and Stephanie (Paul) Scheffler of Longmont, CO; son, Dr. Barry Hoover of Lincoln; grandchildren, Jeni (Sean) Cook, Tricia (Paul) Camplin, Lesley (Benjamin) Stangl, Ashley, Dylan, Angelica, Antonio, Joshua, Michaela, Caleb, Samuel, Benjamin and Noah Hoover and Sarah Scheffler; great-grandchildren, Tyler (fiancé, Megan), Hunter, Tanner and Mya Lea Cook, Calvin Camplin, Cara Camplin, Kezia Lois, Amaryllis, Simeon, Malakhi and Eliora Stangl. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lois who died on December 18, 2012; parents; brother, Kenneth “Jerry” Hoover and an infant sister, Elizabeth.
