Obituary for Richard Eugene Saar Richard Eugene Saar, 83, passed away Monday, October 1, 2018, at the Grand Island Veteran’s Home. A private family burial will be held at the Grand Island Veterans Cemetery. Richard was born on September 13, 1935 to Eli and Edith (Fischer) Saar, in Council Bluffs, IA.

, where he was raised and received his education. He entered the United States Army in 1960. In 1972, Richard was united in marriage to Jacklyn Fedor.

The couple made their home in Avoca, IA. Richard made a living as an over the road truck driver. He later moved to Hastings after her death.

Richard was an avid fisherman, having a personal goal of catching at least 200 fish per year, and fishing in “every mud puddle between here and the Mississippi”. He kept detailed records of the places he fished, including bait, temperature, fish caught, and dates. Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter Emily (Mike Sonder) Saar of Hastings; step- daughters, Trini Kaukver, Milve Martella, Heide Manzur, and Laurie Cunningham all of Omaha; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and brother Kenny Saar of Crescent, IA.
