Obituary for Margie Virginia Cook Margie Virginia (Penrod) Cook, age 89, of Evansville, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the Linda White Hospice House. Mrs. Cook was born November 17, 1928 in Butler County, KY, to the late Claude and Lettie (Gaston) Penrod. Margie had worked for George Koch Sons for over 9 years and for Harwood Southern Baptist Church for over 20 years before retiring from the EVSC after 22 years of service.

She was a member of Harwood Southern Baptist Church for over 35 years, where she was known as the “Ham Lady” for baking hams for the families of deceased members and as Christmas gifts for her friends and family. She was also a lifelong member of the Eagles. When not doing for others, you could find Margie riding her mower, taking care of flowers, plants or sitting on the porch, rain or shine, watching an assortment of birds, rabbits, squirrels and deer run across her lawn.

Surviving Margie are a daughter, Cathie Cook of Evansville; a son, James Cook of Paducah, KY; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Margie was preceded in death by her first husband, James D. Cook in 1986 and by her second husband, James Atkins in 2012; by her daughter, Brenda Woodward in 2016; by a granddaughter, Jennifer and by two sisters, Jo Nell King and Bobbie Grise. Funeral services for Margie will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, Rev.

Karl Crowe officiating. Entombment will follow in Memorial Park Mausoleum. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 until 8:00 PM on Wednesday at Pierre Funeral Home.
