Obituary for Melvin E. Luigs Melvin Edward Luigs, 59, of Evansville, passed away at his home surrounded by family on Sunday, September 9, 2018. Mel was born June 26, 1959 in Evansville to the late Robert C. Luigs and Doris (Helfrich) Luigs Peach. He worked for 41 years at General Electric as a machinist and was an active member and past president of IUE-CWA Local 859.

Mel enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, caring for his lawn and garden, fishing and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. Surviving Mel are his wife, Tammy (Greenwell) Luigs; two daughters, Jessica (Tyler) Campbell of Henderson and Haley (Jacob) Owens of Evansville; a son, Evan Luigs of Evansville; his mother, Doris (Helfrich) Luigs Peach; sisters, Brenda (Doug) Alexander, Patti Luigs, Lori (Jim) Schweikarth and Lisa Kissel; brothers, Gary (Yvonne) Luigs, Kenny (Colette) Luigs and Steve (Vernie) Luigs and three grandchildren, Benjamin Owens, Sawyer Campbell and Caroline Owens. In addition to his father, Mel was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis Luigs and by his stepfather, Herman Peach.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 14, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vanderburgh County, Rev. Eugene Schroeder officiating. Burial will take place in the St. Joseph Church cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 8:00 PM on Thursday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street or from 10:30 AM until service time on Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vanderburgh County. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Chris Braden and Heart To Heart Hospice for their exceptional care. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 6202 W.
