Obituary for Maria A. Sulikowski Maria A. (Kobylanski) Sulikowski, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Wingate of East Longmeadow, with her loving family by her side. Born in Temne, Poland on November 16, 1924, daughter of the late Pawel and Michalina (Kopij) Kobylanski, she has been an area resident for nearly seventy years. A communicant of the former Mater Dolorosa Church of Holyoke, Maria was an active participant in parish activities.

She was an accomplished seamstress and used her skills not only for family, but also to supplement the needs of her church. She was also a talented baker for her church. Maria served the local Polish community as the longtime secretary of the Polish National Alliance, Council 82, and the Circle of Polish Unitas, traveling nationally.

Maria was a survivor of the massacre of the Poles in Vohlynia during the Second World War and heroically endured seven years in a forced labor camp in Germany where she raised her first two children until 1949. After the war, when she came to America, she settled in the Polish American communities of Holyoke and Chicopee, where she created a full and simple life amongst her siblings and extended family. Maria was predeceased in 1991 by her beloved husband, Pawel J. Sulikowski, and is survived by her loving children, George P. Sulikowski and wife June of Somers, CT, Hedy McLaughlin and husband Paul of Woodbridge, CT, and Basia Lutz and husband Marvin of Minnesota; six cherished grandchildren, Pamela Epand and husband David, Kate Sulikowski, Emily McLaughlin and husband Bradford Kammin, Alison Sulikowski, Andrew Lutz, and Erica Lutz; two cherished great-grandchildren, Oceane and Chase; her sisters, Stasia Holubecki, Loretta Czerniak, and Myra Iwanski; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Marion and Zenon Kobylanski. Funeral services for Maria will be held Friday from Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front St., Chicopee, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in St. Stanislaus Basilica. Committal services and burial will follow in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery, South Hadley.
