Obituary for Walter H. Pirog Walter H. Pirog, 97, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke. Born September 22, 1921, son of the late Andrew and Agnes (Przybysz) Pirog, he lived most of his life in Chicopee and briefly in Springfield. Walter was a US Navy veteran of World War II, serving primarily on PT Boat 308 in the Mediterranean.

He was a thirty-two year precision grinder for Package Machinery Co. and worked previously for Pratt & Whitney. Walter was a communicant of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus, Bishop and Martyr, and a member of its Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Elder Council 69, Veterans of Foreign Wars William F. Davitt Post, Polish American Citizens Club and Package Machinery Retiree Club.

Walter was devoted to his family, God and country. He greatly enjoyed listening and dancing to polka music, and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. Walter was predeceased in 2006 by his beloved wife of fifty-eight years, Helen (Zbikowski) Pirog, and is survived by four loving children, Ann Lazarz and husband David, of Littleton, CO, Walter J. Pirog and wife Pamela, of Monroe, CT, Kathleen Morrissey and husband James, of Naples, FL, and Theresa Pirog, of Scottsdale, AZ; nine cherished grandchildren; sister, Alice Gracewski, of Suffield, CT; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister, Emily Kulha. Funeral services for Walter will be held Thursday at 9AM from Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front St., Chicopee, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in St. Stanislaus Basilica. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

Calling hours are Wednesday from 5-7PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke, 110 Cherry St., Holyoke, MA 01040. Upcoming Events Visitation , NOV 7.
