Marie D. Huge, 96, of La Porte, passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at La Porte Hospital. Marie was born on November 23, 1921 in La Porte, IN to Edward and Catherine (Fenker) Huge. Surviving are her sister, Margaret E. Nowak of La Porte; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by her parents; 2 sisters, Louise Huge and Doris Winn; and 2 brothers, Edward and Robert Huge. Marie attended grade school at St. John’s Lutheran School and graduated from LPHS in 1940. She graduated from Tobias Beauty College of South Bend in 1941 and worked in that profession in South Bend until August 1951.

She then entered nurses training and graduated from Walther Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Chicago, in September 1954. In December 1954, she returned to La Porte and worked at Fairview Hospital in various fields of nursing. For the next 10 years, she was an office nurse for Dr. Kepler.

After he closed his practice to serve in the Peace Corps, she returned to La Porte Hospital and worked as a pharmacy assistant. She retired this position in January 1989, only to take on as a caregiver for family members. She loved caring for and working with people.

Marie was dedicated to her Lord and church as she pressed on in her life. Her hobbies were many, especially gardening, quilting, needlepoint, music, and reading. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM (CT) Monday , July 2, 2018 at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Rev.

Ronald Brauer officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held from 10 AM (CT) until the time of the service on Monday at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 111 Kingsbury Ave, La Porte, IN 46350. Condolences may be shared with the family on www. cutlerfuneralhome.com.
