Obituary for Marshall Joel Lipscomb Gaffney — Marshall Joel Lipscomb, 78, of 101 Park Place Drive, passed away Saturday, June 2nd, 2018, at Mary Black Health System – Gaffney. Born in Gaffney, he was the son of the late Robert Joel Lipscomb and Cleo Harris Lipscomb. Mr. Lipscomb loved being active in his community.

He loved cooking and, in the past, had helped cook many meals for a lot of the athletic teams in our area. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge, Buford Street United Methodist Church, and he served in the National Guard. Joe was an avid University of South Carolina fan and he retired after many years as an estimator for Sanders Brothers.

Surviving Mr. Lipscomb are one son, Tony Lipscomb, and wife, Holly, of Gaffney; two daughters, Suzanne L. Whisenant and husband, Kenneth, of Hartsville, SC and Mandy L. Connolly and husband, JP, of Spartanburg; and six grandchildren, Greyson Jones, Banks Connolly, Drew Connolly, Delani Lipscomb, Lylah Reese Lipscomb, and Chandler Lipscomb. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lipscomb was preceded in death by a sister, Sue L. Blanton. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 5th, 2018, from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Buford Street United Methodist Church.

The family will be holding a private memorial service at a later date. Memorials may be made to Hospice Compassus, 212 East Floyd Baker Blvd, Gaffney, SC 29340, or to the Cherokee County Recreation District, 570 Twin Lake Rd, Gaffney, SC 29341. The family will be at the home of Tony Lipscomb, 137 Old Pros Drive, Gaffney, SC 29341.

The family would like to thank Magnolias of Gaffney for everything they did for their father in his time there. They also want to thank Hospice Compassus and the ICU staff of Mary Black – Gaffney for their care during the final stages of their father’s illness. The Book of Memories is available at www.
