She had one sibling, Roy Glover (Ellen), of Ruston with multiple nieces and nephews. Mary Ann attended Ruston High School where she excelled in playing the trombone in the band.
She graduated in 1956 and took her love of playing to Louisiana Tech University where she continued to play in the band. During the summer of 1956, while visiting with a friend at the TONK (student center) on campus, a young man saw her and thought he had to meet her. He went over and introduced himself.
This was the beginning of a lifelong relationship between Mary Ann and Kennie E. Bowman, Sr. During that same summer Mary Ann participated in the Peach Festival Beauty Pageant and the Peach Cooking Contest. She won first place for her peach pie and Kennie made the decision right then that cooking was more important than winning a beauty pageant. Mary Ann married Kennie E. Bowman, Sr. on June 4, 1959.
They both graduated from Louisiana Tech University before pursuing graduate degrees at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge; however this pursuit was cut short when they had to return to north Louisiana to help care for Kennie’s terminally ill mother. Mary Ann and Kennie had three children. Their first born was Kennie E. Bowman, Jr. who preceded her in death in 1975.
The second born was Chris L. Bowman and the youngest was Debra Bowman Cooper. Mary Ann loved her children, but there became a whole different level of love and adoration when she became a grandmother. She loved and adored her five grandchildren, Colby Bowman, Casey Bowman, Carley Bowman, Justin Cooper and Ashley Cooper.
Mary Ann and Kennie, during their sixty two year, seven month and 21 day relationship, had a true partnership in everything that they did. While living in Minden, LA and even after they moved to Jonesboro, they both taught Sunday School in their church. Mary Ann was also the Home Demonstration Agent/4-H Leader for the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service.
After leaving that position, Mary Ann and Kennie became self- employed by owning three convenience food stores. Mary Ann became certified to teach and substituted numerous times. In 1996, Mary Ann and Kennie began their last business venture together by purchasing a KOA Kampground in Forsyth, GA.
They operated this business together up until Mary Ann’s illness. Mary Ann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend to many. She will be missed dearly.
