Mary Ann Shirey, age 92, of Grantsville, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019. She was the daughter of the late Frank W. Kooken and Laura V. (Bailey) Kooken and the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mary Ann was a graduate of Bruce High School and Catherman’s Business School.

She was employed by the Luke Paper Mill in the payroll department until early in her married life when she lovingly devoted herself full-time to raising a family, homemaking and volunteering. Later in life Mary and her husband moved to Florida for 24 years prior to returning to Maryland to be near family. Surviving Mary are her husband, Harry Shirey, Jr. and three daughters; Susan, Karen Pitrolo (Jim), and Lisbeth Joy (Jerry).

She also leaves behind three granddaughters, four great-grandchildren and her cat. Mary Ann loved being with family and friends, children, animals and travelling. She understood that the most important thing in life was to know Jesus.

Mary’s life was well-lived and she will continue to be loved and missed. Her family would like to thank everyone for their loving and compassionate care and concern for Mary. At Mary Ann’s request, a private graveside service will be held.
