MIFFLINBURG – Mary Ellen VonNeida, 91, of 106 E. Green St., formerly of Hartleton, entered into rest at 9:45 a.m., Saturday, April 21, 2018, at her home. She was born October 19, 1926, in Lewisburg, a daughter of the late Lester D. and Mary Lavina (Spigelmeyer) Ruhl. On May 15, 1948, at the Swengel Lutheran Church, she married John D. VonNeida, who preceded her in death February 2, 1987.

Mary Ellen was a graduate of the one room Swengel School and a 1944 graduate of Mifflinburg High School. She was a lifelong member of the Christ’s United Lutheran Church, Millmont, where she helped with many church functions over the years. Previously, she assisted at the Swengel and Hartleton Lutheran Churches.

Earlier in life, Mary Ellen worked in elder care. For many years, she and John enjoyed working together around their property in Hartleton and in their gardens. She had a great passion for growing flowers and her fresh cut flowers could always be found in a friend’s home.

Mary Ellen always said “You can’t plant too many flowers”. . After John’s passing, Mary Ellen worked for many years at the Mifflinburg Middle School cafeteria and volunteered at the Evangelical Community Hospital gift shop.

She enjoyed following the kids around to their sporting events, caning chairs, ceramics, and estate sales. Surviving are one son, Tim VonNeida (Kj); , 5 grandchildren, Scott Sampsell (Michelle), Ryan Sampsell (Kinley), Lindsey (Chris) Snyder, Angi (Aric) Gramly, and Tyler VonNeida (Shirah); and 11 great grandchildren, Hailey, Brennen, Makenna, Taylin, Tyler, Dominic, Denzel, Dylan, Gabe, Zoey, and Jack. She was preceded in death by her siblings, J. Clair Ruhl, Miriam Sholter, Rita Waltz, Hilda Schnure, Thelma McEwen, Hazel Shoemaker, O. Ralph Ruhl, Ann Whitsitt, and Edna Clark; granddaughter, Heidi L. VonNeida; daughter-in-law, Denise Graham VonNeida; and daughter Cindy E. Sampsell.

There will be no public viewing or visitation. The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Tuesday, at the Christ’s United Lutheran Church, 13765 Old Turnpike Rd. , Millmont, with Rev.

John Yost, officiating. Burial will be in the Hartleton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Christ’s United Lutheran Church, 13765 Old Turnpike Rd.

, Millmont, PA 17845, or give a friend or loved one a bouquet of flowers. Funeral arrangements are by Roupp Funeral Home, Inc., 8594 Old Turnpike Rd. , Mifflinburg.
