Mary P. Stauffer September 11, 1930 – May 5, 2018 Mary P. Stauffer, 87, residing in Sandusky, passed away May 5, 2018 peacefully at home surrounded by her family, after a brief illness. Mary was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Ward and Marcia (Pinkerton) Peterson. She graduated from The University of Michigan and taught English and Latin for Sandusky City Schools.

Mary was an avid tennis player, playing well into her 80s. She won many Sandusky City Championships and… Read More » traveled to Hilton Head with her “tennis friends” for nearly 20 years. She also enjoyed golf, travelling abroad, and her daily crossword puzzles.

Mary loved to read, and always had a book to recommend or share. She was a Sandusky Library Board trustee, serving as past president, and was a member of the Follett House and Lange Trust committees. She was active in the community, serving as one of the original advisors for the Sandusky High School Swan Club, acting in Harlequins Theatre and volunteering for CASA.

Mary was involved with the League of Women Voters, P.E.O., and College Women’ Club. She was a past member of the Grace Episcopal Church Vestry and a past member of the Stein Hospice Service board of trustees. For the past thirty years, Mary spent much of her time enjoying time with her grandchildren, attending many of their school and sporting events and celebrating each birthday and special occasion with a card and handwritten note.

They will miss her greatly. Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Melvyn, and her sisters, Jane Peterson and JoAnn Jones. She is survived by her brother, Ward Peterson; her children, Mary Jane (Frank) Hill of Berlin Heights, Elizabeth (Robert) Aumann of Cincinnati, Martha (Dennis) Murray of Sandusky, John (Ann) Stauffer of Huron, and Ann (David) Binzer of Liberty Township, along with fourteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A Celebration of Life for both Mary and Mel will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 pm on June 9, 2018, at Plum Brook Country Club. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
