25, 1938 to Mary and Luther Parr of Yoakum, Texas. He graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in 1958. On January 21, 1961 he married the apple of his eye, Marjorie Ann Kristek, who by the way was the apple of his eye for 58 years.
They would make their home in Hallettsville where Maurice would live out his life. Their union was blessed with two daughters; Lisa Renee and Melinda Kay. For 15 years Maurice, with Marjorie right by his side, managed Menscik’s grocery store.
It was a store with a family atmosphere. He was very close to his employees and his customers. He worked very hard to make both feel appreciated, valued, and respected.
It was true, Maurice loved Menscik’s, but nothing made him prouder than his two girls and their batons. He loved traveling every weekend to his girls’ twirling contest. The family would travel to Houston or to San Antonio, but Corpus Christi and McAllen were his favorites.
He would take care of making sure his girls had enough to eat, all day long, to keep them going. He never got tired of bringing home trophies and medals and would beam when he would tell friends how, in his words, “great”, his daughters had done “again”! And when they both became Indian twirlers, his pride and smile only increased.
After this period of time, and much closer to retirement, Maurice decided to give back to that which had given him so much! He began working as the custodian for “Big Blue”, Sacred Heart School; along with being the part time custodian at the post office. During this time he loved traveling thru the whole country on vacations with his wife.
Whether it be New York for his 50th birthday or Alaska. Maurice loved spending time with his family including his son-in-law’s James Adams, Timothy Schaefer, and Tommy Grahmann Jr He enjoyed the kids at SHS so much.
He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow up in the school. Whether they were in band, football, or even, guess what, a twirler, he loved it all and would have never missed any of it! He loved his family and friends.
He loved “Big Blue” and he loved his life. Tragically, he lost his son-in-law Timothy Schaefer in 2008. This was a hurt and a loss that stayed with him.
But we, his family, know that Timmy was standing at the gate when St. Peter opened it and we know they are both telling us “We Love You, We Miss You and We’ll see you all Later! ” Maurice is survived by: his wife Marjorie; 2 daughters, Lisa Adams & husband James of Hallettsville, and Melinda Schaefer Grahmann & husband Tommy Jr. of Hallettsville; 5 grandchildren, Jonathan Schaefer & wife Michelle, Cory Schaefer & friend Gwen Holt, Michael Adams, Aaron Schaefer & wife Sydney, and Sandra Adams; and 6 great grandchildren, Taylor, Addison, Brooklyn, Aubrianah, Timberley and Ashtyn.
