Mavis Jane Lambert March 13, 1933 – January 22, 2019 Share this obituary View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Mavis Jane Lambert, 84 of Callao, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at Loch Haven Nursing home in Macon, MO. We are honoring Mavis’ request that there would be no service or burial. Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home are making cremation arrangements.

Mavis was born on March 13, 1933 in Muscatine, IA, to Rufus and Evelyn (Smith) Tompkins. She had four older brothers. The family had lived in the Muscatine, IA area for several years before moving to Colorado and later to southern Missouri, she received her education within these areas, in February of 1971 she earned her GED in Jefferson City, Missouri.

She moved to Callao, MO to be near her parents in Macon, MO. She married Elmer Haller of Muscatine, IA; they had two sons, Chris and Dan. Later she married Elmer Lambert they divorced in 1988.

They had no children. Mavis was a secretary for the Muscatine Chamber of Commerce for several years, then moved to Bettendorf, IA where she opened “Mavis’ Music“ piano and organ store. After moving to Callao, Mavis became very involved in the community serving as Mayor of Callao in 2000.

Along with a group of fellow residents, she assisted in the development of Callao Community Building Corp, referred the senior apartments in Callao. She served as Secretary/Treasurer on the Board of Directories and Property Manager for 17 years. Her hobbies included reading mysteries, playing games on her laptop, she was a very talented artist and loved working with wood.

Earlier she was an active member of the Christian Church of Bettendorf, IA. She has no living relatives. However, she referred Judy Nerini, LaDena Mills, Amos Farland, Mandy Adams, and Ethel Marie Spencer as her family.

Fellow board member Bill McCully was her best friend.
