Deveno, 90, of Macon, MO, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at the Samaritan Hospital in Macon. Bertha was born on January 30, 1928, in Litchfield, Maine, the daughter of Willis Granville and Grace W. (Holt) Douglas. She was married to Joseph Deveno on March 14, 1945, in Monmouth, ME.

She worked some of her life at a department store and a garment factory, but most of her life as a nurse and helping take care of the elderly. Bertha and her husband also operated a family dairy farm called Hillside Farms. She enjoyed sewing, loved working with oxen in her youth, working with draft horses, going to horse shows, teaching her family all about draft horses, was an animal lover, and especially loved spending time with her family.

Bertha is survived by one son, Thomas J. Deveno of Niangua, MO, three daughters, Joanne Morton and her husband David of Callao, MO, Mary C. King and her husband Larry of Winfield, KS, and Cathy Stone of Aldophus, KY, five grandchildren, Suzanne Page of TN, Marla King of New York, Jody Moss of Atlanta, MO, April Wood of New York, Sara Thompson of SD, seven great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, in-laws and other extended family, two brothers, Merle G. Douglas and George Pease, three sisters, Mary Profenno, Roxanne Profenno and Sheena Oullette. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant daughter, two brothers, Andy Douglas and Monty “Jr” Pease and two sisters, Kae Douglas and Helen Scott. Graveside services will be 3:00 pm, Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, north of Macon.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon.
