Evelyn Ruth Dunham April 16, 1924 – February 16, 2019 Share this obituary View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Evelyn Ruth (Fothergill) Dunham, 94, of Callao, Missouri, passed away at Samaritan Hospital in Macon on Saturday, February 16, 2019. Evelyn was born April 16, 1924, in Fillmore, Missouri, the only child of Francis Edward and Lois Ruth (Thorburn) Fothergill. She graduated in 1946 from Central College (now Central Methodist University) in Fayette, Missouri, where she played the clarinet for 4 years in the band.

While in college, she spent her summers in Estes Park, Colorado, waiting tables. She was united in marriage to Tom B. Dunham on June 25, 1949, at the Fillmore Christian Church. Together, they made their homes on the Chariton River bottoms west of Callao, Missouri, then later south of Callao where she resided until her death.

Prior to her marriage, Evelyn taught for 3 years in the Boxholm, Iowa, School District, and was later a bookkeeper for Dobyns’ Lumberyard in Bevier, Missouri, in addition to being a substitute school teacher, homemaker and farm wife. Evelyn was a member of the Fillmore Saddle Club, United Church of New Cambria, the church’s Evening Missionary Society, the CNC club, the Good Intentions Club, the Macon County Retired Teachers’ Association, the Macon County Historical Society, and the Macon County Republican Club. She was a 4-H leader for the Callao Shamrocks and a Republican election judge for the Callao polling place.

She loved camping, riding horses, traveling, working in her flower beds, and spending time with her family and friends. Evelyn is survived by her children, Ruth Ann Walker and husband Terry, of Clarence, Missouri, and Paul Edward Dunham and wife Mary, of Callao; four grandchildren, Anna Ruth (Corey) Blackford of Macon, Missouri, Ryan Edward (Ace) Walker of Callao, Kyle Thomas (fiance` Katherine) Dunham of Springfield, Missouri, and Cody Allen Dunham of Callao; great-grandchildren, Lane Joseph and Emma Ruth Blackford of Macon and Joshua Edward Thomas and Isabella Rain Walker of Callao; step-grandchildren and families from out of town; sister-in-law, Calista Dunham of Macon, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Tom on March 20, 1989, infant daughter Janet Lynn on January 13, 1961, and long-term companion Gerald E. Thomas on August 11, 2013.

Funeral services will be conducted by longtime family friend Bro. Jim Bolin and held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 21, 2019, at the United Church of New Cambria in New Cambria, Missouri. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Wednesday evening, February 20, also at the church.

Burial will be in the Locust Grove Cemetery in Callao, Missouri. The family suggests memorials to the Randy Johnson Memorial fund in Macon, Missouri.
