Mearl’s Obituary Mearl E. Orner, 85, of Dillsburg, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at his home. He was born April 7, 1933, in Warrington Township, York County the son of the late Ervin and Margaret (Urich) Orner. Mearl was the widower of Carrie E. (Rebuck) Orner.
Mearl was a retired dairy farmer and organized ORN-COS Panderama Dairy in 1959 in partnership with his father and his brother Ray. They produced milk and raised registered Holsteins and selling heifers to local dairy farmers. Also the partnership sold nationally and internationally to buyers in California, Florida, Maryland, Kuwait, Puerto Rico, Japan and Venezuela in the “ORN-CO” prefix.
He was a graduate of the former Dillsburg High School, Class of 1952. He served as President of the local and York County Chapters of Future Farmers of America. He received the Keystone Farmers Degree and the Sears DeKalb Foundation Award.
Mearl also played on the Dillsburg High School championship soccer and baseball teams. He served his country for two years in the U.S. Army as a Supply Record Specialist at Saumur Sagnal DePot, France. Specialist 3rd class Orner was one of thirty men chosen to represent the U.S. Army and march in the 1954 Armistice Day parade in Saumur, France.
Mearl’s memberships include the Atlantic Dairy Co-Op, serving six years as Delegate; former member of the State and National Holstein Assoc; and the York County Farmers Assoc. ; life-time member of the Dairy Shrine Club, Ft. Atkinson, WI; 25 year member of the NRA; Yellow Breeches Anglers and Conservation Assoc.
; South Mountain V.F.W., Post #6771, Dillsburg; and also the Shiloh American Legion Post #791. Mearl was also a member of the Barrens United Lutheran Church, Dillsburg and attended Mount Zion Methodist Church, Dillsburg. He loved gospel and country music and was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Redskins, Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Yankees.
Mearl is survived by one brother, Ray Orner of Dillsburg; two sisters, Norma Jean Cook of Chambersburg, Betty Albert of Mechanicsburg; two step-daughters, Patricia Weigel of Dillsburg, Leslie Strausser of Dillsburg; several nieces, nephews, and step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Janet Trump and two brothers, Robert and Elwood Orner. Services will be held Monday, March 25, 2019, at 11:00 am in the Cocklin Funeral Home, Inc., 30 N. Chestnut St., Dillsburg.
Burial will be held in the Barrens Salem Union Cemetery. A viewing will be held Monday from 10-11 am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Residential Hospice, 900 Century Dr., Ste.
201, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.
