Mia Martin, age 8, crossed the rainbow bridge on Friday, January 11, while peacefully resting in her mommy’s arms. Her wonderful veterinarian, Dr. Bryan Mohr, helped her cross in the comfort of her home. Mia was born on March 10, 2010, to Tex and Nikki (Jerry and Kim Meade’s adorable Yorkshire Terriers).

Thankfully, a mutual friend connected Meades with Taylor Martin. Taylor adopted Mia on May 7, 2010, and they’ve had a special bond since that day. Affectionately referred to as “Princess Mia,” “Misa,” ”Peewee” or “Mimi,” she was always up for an adventure!

She especially liked Chick-Fil-A, Cone Palace, South Pole, McDonalds, but shopping was her favorite pastime. Clay Terrace in Carmel was her special place, but she gladly strutted the sidewalks of anyplace her mommy took her. Her family teased that she acted as if she owned downtown Tipton each time she walked there.

As long as her mommy was with her, Mia also loved to travel. She’s visited 11 states but her favorite vacation place was the beach of Melbourne, Florida, just like her Mommy. Mia never reached the 3 pound mark, but she was confident that she was the “biggest and baddest” one in her home.

She enjoyed chasing Alfie, the cat, who easily outweighs her by four times. Also, she confidently controlled her Labrador cousins/faithful companions/partners in crime (112 and 130 pounds), Beau and Apollo. They respected and feared, yet adored her from the beginning.

A sweet memory of how they loved her took place at Dr Mohr’s Greentown Animal Hospital. The Martin family was attending a social event for dogs and their owners. As the Martins settled into a shaded, grassy area to eat lunch, other dogs nearby became interested in investigating Mia.

Her cousins weren’t having it. They closed ranks around her and growled lowly, warning the other dogs to leave her alone. An ongoing comical issue for Mia was frequently being mistaken for a kitten due to her size and ear shape.

Children and adults alike have called her “Kitty”. Mia seemed to understand and would reply with her typical “hmphhh! ” She had a huge personality in that tiny body.

Mia brought sunshine to our home in even the dreariest of days. Mia was blessed with many who loved her. Those left to miss her include her mommy, Taylor Martin; grandparents, Dean and Kathleen Martin; Aunt Torrey Martin (London, Ohio); Uncle Trevor and Aunt Georgie Martin (Sacile, Italy); her furry cousin, Beau; her feline nemesis, Alfie; and her best friend, Bella.

She was preceded in death by her cousin, Apollo, on Christmas Eve. The family would like to thank Greentown Animal Hospital and MedVet, Indianapolis, for their excellent care and support during Mia’s life. Taylor, you picked the best.

“Dogs have a way of finding the people who need them and filling an emptiness we didn’t ever know we had”.
