Obituary for Michael Dale Shrewsbury This world became a sadder place on Thursday, November 1, 2018 when the soul of Mike Shrewsbury age 58 of Richlands, Virginia, left this world when God called him home. Few people on this earth get to experience firsthand the caliber of a person we all had the pleasure to know as Mike Shrewsbury. Mike was born in Bluefield, West Virginia and was the son of Gloria Ann Shrewsbury Glass and the late Dale Roland Shrewsbury.
He was a 1978 graduate of Montcalm High School and had been a former plant manager for Woodtech and American LaFrance and was working as a sales manager for Davis Wood Products. Mike was a proud member of the Bailey Masonic Lodge #137 for over 35 years. Mike was a cut up, a prankster of the first degree.
Laughter was his medicine, he knew a smile and a good laugh would make you feel better. Stranger was not in his vocabulary, and those who knew him well, knew that he had his own unique vocabulary. His spare time used to be spent fishing, hunting, or cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs and the Steelers.
But his whole world changed on July 22, 2017 when Rhonda walked up the hill and into his life for their first date. Mike said he never knew love at first sight could be real until he saw Rhonda. Within a few days he told Rhonda, his life would be complete if she would marry him, so on August 25th , they were engaged and married by December 16th.
He often commented that he loved her more than fishing and wanted to spend whatever time he had left with her. Mike was always excited when Sunday dawned, he loved attending the City on A Hill Church and listening to Pastor Barry minister. Mike was very generous and loved giving people presents, his final gift was the donation of his organs so he could give someone a better life.
The greatest joys of his life were his wife, children and grandchildren. We consider ourselves the luckiest of individuals to be forever impacted by the unconditional love and free spirit of his beautiful soul; a part of him that will live on forever in our memories and heart. His absences will leave a void that can never be filled.
Those who remain to cherish his memory are: His love and soul mate, Rhonda VanDyke Shrewsbury of Richlands, VA His sons: Eric Shrewsbury and wife, Jessica of Montcalm, WV Joshua Shrewsbury and wife, Amy of Montcalm, WV Jacob Shrewsbury and wife, Tiffany of Montcalm, WV Ronnie Thomason and wife, Ashleigh of Cedar Bluff, VA Benjamin Thomason of Claypool Hill, VA Daughter, Mary-Grace Thomason of Charlotte, NC Sister, Tammy Reagin and husband, Larry of Richmond, VA Brothers: Rod Shrewsbury and wife, Theresa of Tazewell, VA Jeff Shrewsbury of Mableton, GA Willie Shrewsbury and wife, Angela of Jonesborough, TN Jamie Shrewsbury and wife, Donna of Leeds, AL Father and Mother In-law, Donnie and Mary Smith of Richlands, VA Grandchildren, Chloe and Jordyn Shrewsbury; Landon and Paisley Dillon; Haighliegh Bordeaux; Cole and Rhyleigh Thomason also survive along with several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
