Mildred Irene “Millie” Garrett, 87, of Westminster, passed away peacefully, June 15, 2018 at Westminster Healthcare Center. She was the wife of Sterling E. Garrett who she married in 1959. Born January 16, 1931 in Bachman’s Valley, Carroll County, she was the daughter of the late Granville and Marguerite (Ament) Arbaugh.

Mildred graduated from Maryland State Teachers School, now Towson University, where she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a first-grade teacher at Manchester… Read More » Elementary School for 38 years. She was a member of Meadow Branch Church of the Brethren where she was the director of the Junior, Senior and Youth Choirs and was the church organist.

Also, Mildred was a youth advisor, Sunday school teacher and a church board member. In addition to her husband, Mildred is survived by her sister, Kathryn Berkey of Denton, MD; Brothers-in-law Ted and Wilbur Garrettnieces Diana Pogue, Betsy Hurst, Debbie Arbaugh, Donna Eyler, Sondra Tasker and Susan Rash; nephews Karl, Keith and Gerald Berkey and Kenneth Garrett. In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her niece Carolyn Berkey.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 11:00 am Meadow Branch Church of the Brethren, 818 Old Taneytown Road, Westminster, until the time of her funeral service at 12:00 pm with Rev. Amy Bell officiating. Interment will follow at Meadow Branch Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Meadow Branch Church of the Brethren at the address above. Funeral arrangements by Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, Westminster.
