Nina Ruth Higgins, 78, of Bristol, VA went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 in Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born in Caney Ridge, VA on January 26, 1941, a daughter of the late Plez and Juanita Collins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Allene Schwartz and one brother, Edward Collins.

She was a resident of Bristol for many years. She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She held a 5th degree black belt in Martial Arts.

Nina was the head instructor at the School of Japanese Martial Arts at it’s various locations in Southwest Virginia. She attended Highlands Fellowship Church. The hobbies she most enjoyed were karate, spending time with her family, and attending church.

Nina is survived by her husband, Daniel Higgins: three daughters, Shirley Gobble of Gainesville, GA, Robin Higgins Frawley and husband Robert Francis of Fulshear, TX, and Cheryl Rohr and husband Randy of Bristol, VA; one son, Christopher Delmus Higgins of Bristol, VA; and grandson, Derek Joel King and wife Leigh Anne of Lexington, KY; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce Ray of Denton, TX and Ruby Jones of Tempe, AZ; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Bristol Regional Medical Center, the hospice staff, nurses, and PCT for all the love and excellent care Nina received. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 25, 2019 at Highlands Fellowship Church, Bristol, VA.

The Celebration of Life Service will follow at 7:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor Gary Childers officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be sent to Highlands Fellowship Church, Nina Higgins Memorial, 134 Commerce Circle, Bristol, VA 24202.
