MADISON/FITCHBURG – Olga Erna (nee Jensen/Jansen) Ascher, age 92, passed away on May 17, 2018 in the comforting care provided by St. Mary’s Care Center and embraced by the adoration and love of her entire family. She was born August 27, 1925 in Merrimac, Wisconsin. She worked outside the home in her youth.

After meeting, falling in love and marrying Fred Henry Ascher on November 8, 1946 Olga devoted herself to her most important career: wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker extraordinaire. Olga and Fred nurtured and raised 9 children in the Fitchburg/Madison area: Patsy (Ed), Bill (Beth), Bob, Fred Jr., Tom, Pam, Tammie (Terry), Cindy (Bill) and Kerrie (Chris). Olga was an avid baker, meal maker and gardener.

She spent hours canning the vegetables from her garden to help feed her family during the winter. In her final years, Olga thoroughly enjoyed balloon volleyball, bingo and visits from Pickles. Olga was preceded in death by her husband and an infant son.

She is survived by all 9 children, 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Olga repeatedly proclaimed to all that she enjoyed every minute with her kids. Dear Mom, Your family appreciates, respects and loves you for the many blessings and memories you inspired.

Each time we gather you will be extremely missed. Please rest peacefully knowing that you are always in our hearts and your spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. Thank you for everything!

A Celebration of Olga’s life will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at St. James Lutheran Church, 427 South Main Street, Verona, with Rev. Peter Narum officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 AM at the same location prior to the funeral.
