Paul’s Obituary Paul A. Feist, 89, Elk Grove, CA, formerly of Minot, ND, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2019, in an Elk Grove, CA hospital. Paul Ambrose Feist was born in Karlsruhe, ND, the son of Frank A. and Catherine (Senger) Feist. He was raised, and worked on the family farm, and because of his hard work ethic, was often hired to work for his neighboring farmers.
At age 19, he moved to Seattle, Washington, to join his brother, Ed in the construction trade. At age 21, he was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps and served during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. After his honorable discharge, Paul continued doing what he loved and knew best which was construction work.
He worked in Sacramento CA, (he saved his first union card) and even purchased a house along with his sister, Emily. He would later go back to North Dakota, where he helped his brothers on some of their projects and later joined Feist Construction Company. Paul soon found the love of his life, Margaret S. Nasner.
They were married on November 22, 1958, and were blessed with nine children. Paul owned and managed Magic City Lumber from 1966 to 2004; he was the Magic in Magic City Lumber. The lumberyard was known for its vast array of supplies.
Paul could tell a customer where any item was located, in what building and on what shelf or bin, all from behind his desk. The saying was “If Magic City Lumber didn’t have it no one did”. He was honest and known as a man of his word.
Paul would open the shop early, close late, or come in on Sunday if someone needed something. Paul was a generous man, very giving, fun, and always loved a great party. He sponsored softball teams, bowling leagues, and was always ready to throw a “championship celebration”.
He took great pride in helping others and always made sure they were well taken care of. Paul left an impact on his children’s lives. His legacy is that of a man who exemplified a great work ethic, high morals and values that showed everyone how to be kind and loving to a spouse and always supported his children in their endeavors.
Paul touched the lives of those he met. He had a sparkle in his eye, a mischievous smile and generally cared for others. He captured the hearts of everyone he met whether it was for one hour, a day, or for an eternity.
