Yvonne “Vonnie”‘s Obituary Yvonne “Vonnie” Lovdahl, 85, Minot, ND, passed away Friday, February 15, 2019, in a Minot care center. Yvonne Iva Jean Braaflat was born December 17, 1933, the daughter of Oscar and Dorothy (Benson) Braaflat, in Plaza, ND. She was raised and educated in Plaza.
Vonnie often said her parents were her best friends. As an adult she visited them daily at their farm during the summer and enjoyed family dinners on Sundays throughout the rest of the year. Yvonne was united in marriage with Robert Lovdahl.
The made their home in Plaza during the summer months, where Robert farmed. They lived in Minot during the school year, where Vonnie was employed with Job Service ND. Vonnie enjoyed flower gardening, walking, and attending music concerts and events with her daughter in Bismarck and Minot.
She enjoyed live music, especially country. She enjoyed boating at the lake; watching her children waterski. She attended all of their band and orchestra concerts and her granddaughter, Lanna’s, softball games and swimming lessons.
She loved going to Phoenix to spend holidays with her son, Mike, and his family. In recent years she got to spend time in Arizona with her beautiful granddaughter Lanna and her darling great-granddaughter Skylynn. Vonnie walked down the street to visit her sister, Dianne, several times a week.
They sat in Dianne’s beautiful backyard, filled with flowers and enjoyed watching Dianne’s wonderful grandchildren. Vonnie was also an accomplished seamstress, sewing most of her own clothing, her daughter’s clothing and creating lovely bridesmaid dresses for many weddings. Vonnie also baked 200 chocolate chip cookies every week for many years for the Second Story Club of Minot.
Vonnie was gracious, kind and giving. She was loved by all of her children’s friends and they enjoyed coming over to the house to play pool and eat treats that Vonnie prepared. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Surviving family includes: Husband of 66 years, Robert Lovdahl, Minot; children, Michael Lovdahl and Valerie Lovdahl, both of Minot; granddaughter, Lanna Lovdahl; great-granddaughter, Skylynn; and former daughter-in-law, Loree Lovdahl, all of Phoenix, AZ; special caregiver, angel and friend, Judy Gill, who made her smile every day and spent hours escorting her in her wheelchair at Edgewood and outside in the sunshine. Also, caregivers Maria Bigelow and Judy Weber, who spent many hours visiting with Yvonne; their kindness will never be forgotten. Memorial Service: Saturday, February 23, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.
