Paul Richard Hunter, 87 of Veto, Ohio passed peacefully into the arms of His Lord Jesus Christ on June 1, 2018, with his loving, devoted wife of nearly 64 years, Norma, at his side. Paul was born on September 29, 1930, and was a lifelong resident of Washington County. He was the son of William and Alberta (Doan) Hunter.

He and his 7 siblings were raised on a farm where they learned the value of hard work. Paul was a 1948 graduate of Vincent High School. He lived and worked in Athens, Ohio, before proudly serving his country in the Korean War as a searchlight operator.

Upon his return to Ohio, he became employed as an electrician at BF Goodrich. Paul faithfully worked 6 days a week to provide for his family before retiring in 1993 with 44 years of service. He enjoyed a few years of retirement before returning to work as a mail courier for People’s Bank for an additional 14 years.

Paul’s legacy of hard work is overshadowed by his love for Christ and his family. In 1954, he married his best friend and loving wife, Norma (Stutler). Those who knew them witnessed a wonderful example of a marriage built on the solid foundation of their shared faith in Christ.

The couple was devoted in their service to the Lord at church where Paul faithfully taught Sunday School classes, children’s church and served as a deacon for many years. His faith was lived out daily, and many souls were influenced by the message of salvation he both talked and walked. Paul and Norma lived in Belpre for 10 years before building their current home in Veto in 1964.

Paul loved gardening, taking care of their lawn, reading and sports. More importantly, he cherished time with his family. Each day began with Paul and Norma faithfully reading the Bible and praying for their children, grandchildren, friends and country.

In addition to his wife Norma, Paul is survived by his sister Mildred Woodburn of Athens, Ohio, two brothers, Howard (Martha) Hunter of Marietta, and Herb (special friend, Laura) of Vincent; 3 children, Richard (Donna) Hunter of Vincent, Brenda (Bob) Sadler of Marietta, Tona (Roger) Heft of Vincent; 5 grandchildren, Michael Hunter (Fiancee Lauren) and Steven Hunter (Fiancee Sarah) of Columbus, and Hannah, Will and Nathan Heft of Vincent, and several nieces and nephews. Services will be on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre with Pastor Mark Eaton and Pastor Rob Vernon officiating. Burial will follow in the Rockland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www. LeavittFuneralHome.com.

Donations in Paul’s memory may be made to CEF (Child Evangelism Fellowship), 1709B 7th St., Parkersburg, WV 26101 or the Gideons.
