Peter’s Obituary GLENS FALLS — Peter Joseph Bruno Sr., 91, of Mason Street, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019, at Glens Falls Hospital with his loving family at his side. He was born in Glens Falls on Apr.
29, 1927, the son of Vitaliano and Rachel C. (Ricciardelli) Bruno. Peter attended St. Mary’s Academy, graduating in the Class of 1945. After his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the end of WWII, serving his country from May 1945 until June 1946 as a Seaman First-Class aboard the USS Princeton.
On July 7, 1947, on a lovely summer day, he married the love of his life, Ruth E. Bruno at St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls. After his marriage to Ruth, Peter went on to do various odd jobs, such as delivering ice and painting, until he began his career at Finch Pruyn in Glens Falls. He worked hard and made his way up from log handler to Executive Vice-President.
Peter was a member of Glens Falls Elks Lodge 81. He was a generous person who did favors for many people and was always ready to lend a helping hand. In his spare time, Peter loved going to his camp, Goodnow Flow, in Newcomb, NY.
He enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing and trading in the stock market. Above all, his wife and family meant the world to him. In addition to his parents, Peter was predeceased by his oldest sister, Rose DelSignore, and his beloved wife, Ruth.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Rachel (Richard) Favreau of Atlanta Georgia, Daniel (Suzanne) Bruno of Glens Falls, Peter (Christine) Bruno Jr. of Warrensburg, Kathryn (Anthony) Kamburelis of Fort Ann, and David (Tanya) Bruno of Queensbury; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. His siblings include Joseph L. Bruno, Vito Bruno, Anthony “Tony” Bruno, Florence Bruno, Arthur Bruno and Robert Bruno, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. In accordance with Peter’s wishes, there are no calling hours.
A funeral Mass will be held 12:10 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Warren Street, Glens Falls. A graveside service, with military honors, will take place in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery, South Glens Falls. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to his caregivers: Keri Sherman, Cindy Randall and Gina Caputo and the staff at Glens Falls Hospital, especially Dr. Bain and Dr. Serfilippi; and a special mention of his brother Bob who went out of his way to be there for Peter.
