Homer Maxie, 81, of Laurel passed away early Monday morning, December 31, 2018, at the Waters of Batesville. One of eight children of Brownlow and Ella Cottongim Maxie, Homer was born in Manchester, Kentucky on March 25, 1937. He came to Indiana when he was 17 years old and lived most of his life in the Laurel area.

On January 4, 1957, Homer married the former Billie June Hicks in Laurel. Mrs. Maxie survives. Homer was employed at the Connersville Country Club prior to working for 18 years at McQuay-Norris.

He also farmed in Franklin County for over 20 years. An avid outdoorsman, Homer enjoyed gardening and digging for ginseng. Besides his wife of 61 years, Billie Maxie, survivors include five children, Dale (Hollie) Maxie of Bath, Indiana, Darrell Maxie of Connersville, Larry (Tarua) Maxie of Andersonville, Indiana, Gary (Bernice) Maxie of Laurel, and Lisa Maxie of Connersville; twelve grandchildren, Dale Michael Maxie, Jennifer (Monty) Back, Holly Maxie, Aylissa (Dylan) Miller, Chyenne Maxie, Jerry (Amanda) Maxie, Sheena (Turtle) Hamilton, Eric Maxie, Jeff (Rashell) Maxie, Gary (Nikki) Maxie, Chris (Mandi) Maxie, and Cole Maxie; 28 great-grandchildren, Brianna Maxie, Kyle Maxie, Jenna Back, Brayden Back, Brody Back, Megan Maxie, Makenzie Maxie, Randy Westerfield, Corey Westerfield, Alyssa Westerfield, Novalee Miller, Torin Miller, Tristan Maxie, Lilly Maxie, Alexis Hamilton, Dani Jo Hamilton, Hoyt Hamilton, Madilynn Maxie, Winter Maxie, Kashlynn Maxie, Claire Maxie, Briar Maxie, Deacon Maxie, Devin Maxie, Breleigh Maxie, Kaiden Maxie, Gradyn Maxie, and Logan Maxie; two great-great-grandchildren, Brenley and Braxton McDaniel.

Homer was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Scott Rathburn and Travis Maxie; four brothers, Boone Maxie, Cecil Maxie, Chester Maxie, and Dan Maxie; three sisters, Edna Cobb, Florence Meyers, and Bessie Cobb. Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2019, at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home. Pastor Tom Marshall will officiate.
