Ray Topper , September 05, 1930 — October 25, 2018

Obituary for Ray Topper Ray M. Topper, 88, of Hummelstown, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2018. Born in Allenport, PA on September 5, 1930, he was a son of the late Blanche and William Topper of Mt. Union.

Ray was a 17-year tractor trailer driver for Halls Motor Transit. He later worked for Duron Paints and then as a groundskeeper for the Hummelstown Cemetery. Ray was a 1949 graduate of the Hershey Industrial School where he had been a stellar all-around athlete.

In later years, he was proudly inducted into the Milton Hershey School Hall of Fame for his athletic performances in football and baseball. Ray was a faithful member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Hummelstown. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years Virginia Fors Topper, his sons, Jeffrey and Timothy Topper, grandchildren, Kimberly and Zachary Topper, and all of his siblings: Leona Collins, William Topper, Jr., Winifred White, Sara Jane Miller, Dorothy Topper, and Edward Topper.

Ray is survived by a son William Douglas Topper of New York City, daughters Leslie Fox of Hummelstown and Emily Hicks (Larry) of Harrisburg, grandchildren Travis Hicks, Amber Topper, Courtney Zinn, and Chelsey Banda, a great grandson Maxwell Banda, daughter-in-law Carol Topper of Hershey, and nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 1, 2018, at 11 AM in Grace United Methodist Church, 433 East Main Street, Hummelstown, with The Rev. John A. Schaefer, his pastor, officiating.

A private inurnment will be in the Hummelstown Cemetery. A visitation will be held Thursday in the church from 10 AM until time of the service. Trefz & Bowser Funeral Home, Inc., 114 West Main Street, Hummelstown, is handling the arrangements.
