Raymond Lee Ray Hamilton , January 19, 1948 — June 26, 2018

Raymond Lee “Ray” Hamilton, age 70, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2018. He was born on January 19, 1948, in Reedly, California, to Robert George and Alva Lois Steinheil Hamilton. They had left Arkansas after marriage in 1937 in search of a new life in the vineyards of California and to raise a family.

He was a C.P.A. and later taught accounting for a year at Ohio Northern State University before coming to Sevier County to work a summer job at English Mountain Resort.

The job became permanent and lasted three years until the company bankrupted. On January 28, 1972 Ray and Nina Ruth Fox married on her parents’ 23rd anniversary. He became one of the family.

He then worked in the Budget and Finance Office at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville for 34 years before retiring in 2008. He was a member of Burchfield Memorial United Methodist Church. Ray was preceded in death by his parents and his three sons, Jayrob McRay, Damon Todd and Jeremy Scott Hamilton and his niece Erica Manning.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years Nina Ruth Hamilton; his daughter Dr. Shana Valere Hamilton-Lockwood and husband Jack Lockwood of Sevierville and 3 grandchildren, Alyssa Hamilton of Sweetwater and twins Zander and Jayley Lockwood of Sevierville; his second mother/mother-in-law Lucy Fox; his brother and sister-in-law Wilma Jean and Michael Manning and nephew Dustin Manning, all of Sevierville; his daughter-in-law Lee Ann Leatherwood of Sweetwater. In lieu of flowers, the family will establish a college fund for Jayley, Zander and Alyssa (Ray’s favorite people in the world). Family and friends will meet at 11 AM Thursday at Burchfield Memorial Cemetery for graveside service and interment with Rev. Ron Russell officiating. Friends may call at their convenience 12 PM to 4 PM on Wednesday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
