Rev. Donald Gene “Duck” Yates, Sr. February 20, 1956 – January 27, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Private Condolences Rev. Donald Gene “Duck” Yates Sr., 62, Hampton went home to be with his Lord Sunday, January 27, 2019 in the Johnson City Medical Center.

A native of Watauga County, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Joseph Coy Yates, Sr. & Marietta McCauley Yates. He was a graduate of Watauga High School, Boone, NC. He was a factory worker, carpenter and Pastor.

He was pastor of Eternal Life Missionary Baptist Church for several years. Survivors include his wife: Karen Reece Yates. His Children: Karen Michelle Matheson & husband Kenny Dean, Roan Mountain, Donald Gene Yates, Jr. & wife BJ and Christian Scott Yates & fiancé Hannah Dingus all of Elizabethton.

Eight Grandchildren: Special Granddaughter, Alexis Matheson , Ashley Yates, Heather Yates, Eden Yates, Joseph Tolley, David Crowder, Abby Crowder and Donald Yates III. His Siblings: Randy Yates, Joseph Coy Yates II, Daniel Yates, and Joanetta Huffman. Several nieces & nephews.

His hobby was collecting rocks, collecting knifes, wood working and fishing. Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Richard Taylor and Rev Charles Cable officiating.

Graveside Service and Interment will be at 12 Noon Friday, February 1, 2019 at Reece Cemetery, Butler. Music will be provided by Trina Poole. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday will be: Christian Yates, Don Yates, Kenny Matheson, Danny Yates, Wayne Reece and James Proffitt.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: David Crowder, Joe Tolley and Wayne Proffitt. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the Staff of Quality of Life Healthcare, Dr. Charles Famoyin & Sarah Hammons. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Friends may visit with the family at his residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday to go to the cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at our web-site www.
