He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lou Lubinski, and his two sons, Ricky Lubinski and David Lubinski. Dick was born in western Kansas in 1942 while his dad was serving in the Navy during World War II. His family moved back to Denver, CO where he and his brothers were raised.
Dick met Nancy in junior high school and they’ve been a couple ever since. After barely graduating from high school, and a firm talk with his mother, Dick began taking engineering classes at the University of Colorado. The year he was to graduate with a degree in electrical engineering it finally came to the attention of the Dean that he had never been accepted into the program.
He proved himself and graduated, going on to earn an MBA from Colorado State University as well. He accepted a job with Hewlett Packard where he worked his entire career until retirement. He traveled extensively with his job, which he loved.
The final years of his career he split his time between Japan and the U.S. He loved fine gourmet food, history, and reading as a result of his travels. The young couple had two daughters and two sons and made their home in Namaqua Hills in Loveland.
He taught his children to snow and water ski, and shared with them his love for travel, and exotic food. He took his family to Germany when he was given the opportunity by Hewlett Packard, and they spent two years exploring Europe. After his retirement, Dick served on the boards of the McKee Medical Center Foundation, Ultimate Support Systems, and was active in the Rotary Club of Loveland, serving as president (2009-10), served on the Rotary Club Foundation Board of Directors (2012-17), was a Paul Harris Fellow, and was named Rotarian of the Year (2005).
He also volunteered at the Denver Aquarium as a diver, completing over 400 dives. In his last months, Dick and Nancy were able to take one last trip—to Africa, which he thoroughly enjoyed, and to celebrate Christmas with all his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a long-time member of LifeSpring Covenant Church in Loveland where he served and worshipped.
He left this world at peace with his Savior and with his family. He will be dearly missed, but we are so thankful he is in a much better place. The family invites you to join them for a memorial service celebrating his life on Thursday, January 31st at 10:30 am at LifeSpring Covenant Church, 743 South Dotsero Drive, Loveland, CO.
Memorial Contributions in Dick’s honor can be made to Loveland Rotary Foundation or to LifeSpring Covenant Church in care of Kibbey-Fishburn, 110 Lincoln Avenue, Loveland, CO 80537.
