Obituary for Richard E, Plowman Sr. Richard E. Plowman, Sr., 84, died peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Select Specialty, York Hospital. Born on December 17, 1933, he was the son of the late James H. and Mae (Dellinger) Plowman. Dick and his wife, Carol (Johnson) Plowman, were married for 58 years on October 10, 2017 and they shared two children, Richard (Rick) E. Plowman, Jr. and wife, Cheryl and Karen E. Traynham and husband, Bobby; four grandchildren, Kristin Cummings (Tom) and Melissa Kline (Tyler) and twin grandsons, Clayton and Colton Traynham; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard was predeceased by his brother, Floyd, who died in 2012. He was proud of his grandchildren; great-grandsons, Brady and Liam; and new great-granddaughter, Evelyn. In 1951, he graduated from William Penn Senior High School.

He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1951 to 1956 with active duty from 1956 to 1958 mapping the coastline of Turkey on the USS Tanner, a geodetic survey ship. He worked at Dentsply International for 27 years in research and development. He holds several patents in his name in the dental industry.

In 1985, he started his own prototype and design business, Plowman Products, Inc., and retired after 30 years. Dick was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Jacobus for over 50 years where he served on many committees. He was a lifetime member of Izaak Walton League.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating at Ocean City, MD. He also belonged to Shiloh American Legion Post 791. Dick received the Quilt of Valor in 2017.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, May 30, 2018 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. followed by a celebration of life tribute beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church, 99 York Road, Jacobus, PA 17407 with Pastor Tina Minnich, his pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery, Salem Union Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
