Obituary for Rita M Sullivan Rita Mary Sullivan of North Haven, CT. and recently Naples Florida peacefully died Thursday June 21, 2018 at Hospice House in Naples Florida. She was the widow of Vincent T. Sullivan who passed away in 2014, to whom she was married for 55 years.
She is survived by her children Nancy Sullivan and her husband Kip of Naples FL, Daniel Sullivan and his wife Jennafer of Wallingford, CT; Noreen Sullivan Jones of Osterville MA. In addition to her children, Rita was Nana to her 9 grandchildren: Bailey Walton and her husband Spencer, Allyn Sullivan, Nate Sullivan, Collin Jones, Bridget Jones, Brendan Jones, Sean Jones, Connor Sullivan, Cade Sullivan and recently born great granddaughter, Mary Ellis Walton. She was also the beloved Aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Rita was born in Ansonia CT on July 7, 1926 to John and Mary (Zuraw) McNamara and sister to pre-deceased Raymond McNamara. Rita attended Assumption School in Ansonia, CT as well as St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in Bridgeport, CT where she graduated as an R.N. She worked at St. Raphael’s and Yale New Haven Hospitals in New Haven CT.
To allow more time to raise her children she then worked for SNET as an Industrial Nurse and taught nursing skills in the New Haven CT school system for 10 years before she retired. She loved golfing in the Lady’s League of Sleeping Giant in Hamden CT, was an active member of the Irish American Club, and loved her morning swims at the YMCA in North Haven CT. Her hobbies were knitting, reading, crossword puzzles and watching her beloved UConn Girls Basketball and Red Sox.
Rita enjoyed her final years in Naples Florida and most enjoyed when her family, friends and grandchildren visited. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday June 27, from 9-10:30 AM, at Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave. , Hamden CT.
Then a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 11:00 AM in Hamden. Followed by the burial at All Saints Cemetery in North Haven CT.
